Happy New Year!

Pink Ribbon Gift Box

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Another year has passed in what seems like the blink on an eye. A New Year started today and it is going to be filled with Gifts and surprises. Yes, there are certainly going to be trials ahead as well, but we are told to rejoice greatly when we encounter them.

We are each here because God loves us and has special plans and purposes for each of our lives. Jesus always talked about coming to serve others. All of our gifts are intended to be used as a blessing to others. Yes, we are to examine our lives, 1 Corinthians 11:28 and 2 Corinthians 13:5, but the two most important commandments in Scripture are to love God and love others.

Wishing you a WONDERFUL NEW YEAR!!

Inexpensive Christmas Gift Ideas

Gifts for Christmas

Christmas Gift Ideas

The basket in this picture was a gift filled with pomegranates from a friend’s tree and a present I received this year. The fruits are from Costco since the original fruits were consumed earlier this year. It was a great gift that I so enjoyed and were picked off her tree.

I’ve posted a Christmas Newsletter Video with other ideas like this that can help you save on your Christmas budget. Another idea in the video is to take plant cuttings to make inexpensive plants for friends and family. Pothos is a particularly hardy plant that is easy for just about anyone to grow. You do need to water it, but it’s quite forgiving if you forget from time to time.

We also have some discounts going for this month that are announced in the short video. Music is a wonderful gift to give friends and family. We have kids worship guitar lessons for the little ones and of course our main Christian guitar lessons too. We have quite a few programs now. Including Christian lessons for piano/keyboard, percussion, voice and even a praise violin book.

For me, the main reason of this season is to celebrate the day God stepped down to earth and was born as a baby named Jesus. What an amazing world He has made! Even in the diversity of the foods we eat. For example, the pomegranate. What an unusual hard to open fruit filled with tiny seeds bursting with flavor and color. We have much to be grateful for!

Easy Christmas Songs

By Jean 2 Comments

Christmas is around the corner and I’ve noticed quite a few people downloading the free Christmas lesson from the Christmas Songs and Solos for Guitar course. In addition to that course, I’m currently working on a new one called Easy Christmas Songs For Guitar.

The new course is geared towards singing Christmas songs with not too hard to play guitar accompaniments. At the time of this post the course is not finished, but we’ve already made it available so you can start learning these songs right away since the holidays are quite soon.

As a professional musician, I always loved playing for Christmas parties. The birth of Christ is a wonderful event to celebrate. And although many parties were not Christ-centered it was fun for me to sing these songs knowing the Savior that they referred to. [Read more…]

How Great Thou Art

By Jean Leave a Comment

“How Great Thou Art” was written as a poem in the late 18oo’s. A young Swedish preacher was inspired as he walked home from church one afternoon.

Carl Boberg was struck by how rapidly a thunderous storm appeared. It rained for just a short time, followed by a breathtaking rainbow.

That night he wrote the words. The original sown was called ‘O Store Gud’ which basically translated to ‘O Great God’ in English.

Through the years, the song, which was sung with the melody of a Swedish folk song, was translated into several languages. In the early 20’s, Mr and Mrs. Stuart Hine were English missionaries that moved to Poland. Stuart heard the song and later translated it into English. This is the version we know as ‘How Great Thou Art.’

Today, there are over 1700 recordings of this song! It’s is said to be the #1 favorite hymn in polls conducted in the US and in Britain. I’m certain that Mr. Boberg would be shocked to find that his inspired poem was translated and loved by so many Christians all over the world!

I’m currently filming a couple arrangements of this beautiful hymn.
