Heaven’s Entrance Exam

By Jean

This site usually focused on worship guitar tips but I just received this Christian joke and thought it might bring a smile to you, too. A merry heart is good medicine.

HEAVEN’S ENTRANCE EXAM

A man dies and goes to Heaven. Saint Peter
meets him at the Pearly Gates and says, “Ok,
here’s how it works. You need 100 points to
make it into Heaven. You tell me all the good
things you’ve done, and I’ll award you a certain
number of points for each item, depending on
how good it was. When you reach 100 points,
you get in.”

“Okay,” the man says….”I was married to the
same woman for 50 years and never once
cheated on her, even in my heart.”

“That’s wonderful,” says Saint Peter, “That’s
worth three points!”  “Three points?” he asks. [Read more…]

Plagal Cadence – Song Endings

By Jean

One of the most used way to extend the end of a worship song is with the use of the plagal cadence. In fact, it has been used for years as the ‘A-men’ ending of hymns in traditional church music.

To understand how it works, you should know what the I, IV, and V chords means. This is briefly explained in volume two of the Worship Guitar Class course and fully taught in our Music Theory course for Guitar. You can see a brief teaching on the plagal cadence in the following video. It starts at around the 1/3rd mark, in the video below.

Basically, the I, IV and V chords are chords built on the first, fourth, and fifth notes of any given scale, or key. In the key of ‘A’, the chords are ‘A’, ‘D’, and ‘E’, or ‘E7’. The V chord is often changed to V7.  [Read more…]

Guitar Supports

Guitar Support Comparisons

This video compares three guitar supports. When sitting, guitar supports can be extremely helpful for playing with good posture. Foot stools work, but can put too much stress on your lower back. I used to experience both lower back pain and neck pain when playing the guitar for extended times.

The A-frame was my favorite guitar support for many years, but just a week ago or so, I was introduced to the ErgoPlay Guitar Support. It’s currently my favorite support. There is even a model for left-handed guitar players.
