- Attributes of God in a Song
Every day I'm struck with awe at God's hand in creation. Even this morning, walking in the neighborhood, I saw a woman with a standard size white poodle and started thinking of all the variety of dogs He has made!Years ago, we had a toy poodle. A toy is the smallest variety of poodle. We got him as a puppy and he used to fit in my coat pocket. So cute.
How about horses? Each type of animal God has created is filled with variety and beauty!
I'm going to be hosting another worship song contest in September. The theme this year is expressing attributes of God. It can be about what He has created, how immense is His Love, how wonderful His grace or anything that focuses on God. It can be either to Him or about Him. More on Attributes of God in a Song

- How to have a Worship Party
There are several references to feasts and banquets in Scripture. One of my favorite parties, this side of heaven, is a Worship Party. I've hosted two kinds of worship parties: one where I and friends lead worship and one for guitar students to lead worship.
For the personal parties, we start with a potluck dinner, then end the evening with worship and prayer. I like potlucks because if doesn't matter if 7 people show or 50 people. There's always enough food.
Sometimes I print up some of the words to songs so quests unfamiliar with the lyrics can sing along. Every party is different. Several of us participate in leading worship. We take turns leading songs and sharing original songs too.

Instrument of Praise by Jean Welles
When this blog was first launched, you guys helped me name this song. It's now one of the songs I'm teaching in Worship Guitar Class DVD 4. Most of the songs in the series are familiar worship songs. In DVD 3, I introduced one of my songs called 'Gentle Rain.' It was so precious when a number of you emailed me that it was your favorite song on the DVD and how much you enjoyed playing it!

- Worship Songs for the Contest are Posted
Over 100 songs were submitted for the Worship Contest… Songs for an Awesome God. Every song written is precious in God's eyes. It's been a joy for me to hear all the submissions. It made me cry thinking that these are just the songs in English. How pleased God must be to hear new worship songs sung in so many different languages!

- How to Write a Worship Song
This is the first article since announcing the Worship Contest that deals with writing worship songs. Before you start to write your song, you need to know what you want to say. For the contest, one of the requirements is that you must back up some of your words with a least one Scripture verse.

- Worship Contest
Throughout Scripture there are references about singing a new song. For example Psalm 33:3 says “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” In Ephesians 5:19, Paul tells us to “Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.” After being severely flogged, we find Paul and Silas praying and singing hymns in a jail that couldn't hold them, Acts 16.

- New song - 'Mi Vida Es Para Ti', or 'My Life, It Is For You'
I recently finished a Beth Moore Study called 'Believing God.' She certainly is a wonderful teacher and vibrant speaker/encourager. On the last night we watched her, via DVD, demonstrate how short our lives are by putting a sign post on one end of the stage that said '0 Years' and another at the opposite end of the stage with '1000 years.'

- What Child Is This?
Here is an instrumental arrangement of 'What Child Is This?' that I put together as a Christmas gift for you this year. Get the music first and then watch the video. If you don't read music, it's also in guitar tab. You should see an article of how to read tab below. If you don't see it, you can always type 'guitar tab' in the search box and that should bring it up.

- Prayer
At the CBA Show a man told me that he had tried to play the guitar for years without succeeding. He asked me if I thought my DVD's could help him. I responded, "For starters, have you ever asked God to help you play the guitar?" He, with wide eyes of astonishment, said "No, I never have. It never even occurred to me to ask!" He then told me that he would do that.

- 6 Picking Patterns + Writing Songs
I often get emails from guitarists that are stuck in a rut using the same strumming pattern for every song. Here are 6 finger-picking patterns that you can use with 4/4 time songs. I wanted to teach them to you with a song, but I can't use popular worship songs because most are copyrighted.
