- For Cat Lovers - a New Devotional Book
For those of you who love to read, there’s a new book out by my good friends Dottie Adams and Marion Wells, with their friend Connie Fleishauer.
It’s called Purr-ables from Heaven, Devotions for Cat Lovers.
On Page 71, Dottie talks about her friend Jean, a songwriter, worship leader and guitar teacher. I’m the Jean, it’s me.
Dottie is a teaching director for a Community Bible Study class. I was her worship leader for many years. You can listen to some of her teaching at DottieAdams.com.
Dottie, Marion and Connie are all wonderful writers and this book will encourage you in your walk with Christ. I highly recommend their new book. If you love cats and love to read… you'll especially adore this book.
To the left of this article is a link to order their book from Amazon.com, for your convenience.
On the back cover of Purr-ables from Heaven it says:

- Amazing Grace - Arrangements for you
In deep gratitude John Newton wrote ‘Amazing Grace’ over 200 years ago. Ex-slave trader turned preacher, John knew first hand God’s amazing grace!
Later, John Rees wrote the last verse, which is my favorite verse:

- Ruth - Known by her Love
I just finished reading the book of Ruth again. What a wonderful woman! Ruth had such a commitment to Naomi, her mother-in-law. She was loyal, a hard worker and humble. At the end of the book, the woman of Bethlehem told Naomi:
“May he (the son of Ruth & Boaz) be to you a restorer of your old age, for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, and is better to you than seven sons, has born him.”
The whole town saw Ruth’s love and beautiful traits!

- She Wanted To Quit the Worship Guitar Class
At the end of one of my worship guitar classes, Vicki wanted to quit. It was just the first lesson but she was discouraged that she couldn’t even understand how chord charts worked. It just seemed much harder than she thought!

- O Come O Come Emmanuel
My gift to you this Christmas is an arrangement I made for this lovely song. The Bible ends with a statement from Jesus that He is returning soon. It could be tonight. A pastor I know received Christ at the window of an AAA store, while buying car insurance.

- Guitar Ministry
King David didn't play the guitar, but if he had one I bet he would have written some beautiful worship songs with it!
Carlton and Sharon Jones are helping modern day 'Davids' acquire guitars in obscure places around the world. They started a ministry that gives guitars to missionaries - guitarministries.com.

- Fear Not!
Why does Jesus keep telling us to “Fear Not?” He tells us because we need to hear it. We have pretty amazing minds that can create vivid pictures of whatever we focus on.
If you watch and listen to the news, most of what we see or hear is pretty dismal. There are wars, famines, fires and threats of all sorts.
We have real enemies who would love to destroy us. We think our enemies are terrorist groups or specific people, but if you pull the veil back, it’s orchestrated by demonic powers.

- How to have a Worship Party
There are several references to feasts and banquets in Scripture. One of my favorite parties, this side of heaven, is a Worship Party. I've hosted two kinds of worship parties: one where I and friends lead worship and one for guitar students to lead worship.
For the personal parties, we start with a potluck dinner, then end the evening with worship and prayer. I like potlucks because if doesn't matter if 7 people show or 50 people. There's always enough food.
Sometimes I print up some of the words to songs so quests unfamiliar with the lyrics can sing along. Every party is different. Several of us participate in leading worship. We take turns leading songs and sharing original songs too.

- Lessons from King Asa
King Asa started our so well. In 1 Kings 15:11 it says: ‘Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done.’ Most of the good Kings in the Old Testament that were good, fell short of King David’s standard.
Scripture then tells us of how King Asa removed false idols and fervently followed the LORD. In 2 Chronicles 14, a vast army came against them. It says in verses 9 – 11:
"Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with a vast army and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.
Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, "LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.""

Instrument of Praise by Jean Welles
When this blog was first launched, you guys helped me name this song. It's now one of the songs I'm teaching in Worship Guitar Class DVD 4. Most of the songs in the series are familiar worship songs. In DVD 3, I introduced one of my songs called 'Gentle Rain.' It was so precious when a number of you emailed me that it was your favorite song on the DVD and how much you enjoyed playing it!

- How to Find a Good Used Guitar
You can get fabulous deals buying a used guitar, if you know what to look for. This article is focused on how to find a good used acoustic or classical guitar.
A few years ago I was celebrating a friend’s birthday in a home with a wall of guitars. I spotted a nice Yamaha classical guitar and asked permission to play it. The owner proudly told me that she had purchased it for $5 at a garage sale.
I know guitars and this instrument originally sold for around $400. It was in excellent condition and around 20 to 30 years old.
On the other hand, I heard through the grapevine that a gentleman purchased a used Ramirez guitar and didn’t realize that the neck was warped. This instrument will never play in tune. He wasted his money. A good Ramirez costs around $5000, but if it’s always out of tune I certainly wouldn’t buy it at any price.
Here are seven items to check before buying a used guitar:
