We have access to our Creator God 24/7, because of the cross. Before Christ, only the high priest could go into the most sacred place once a year. This holiday is still observed and is called Yam Kipper. It’s the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people.
In Christ, we can lift up our prayers and petitions to God any time, and any day. In fact, it says in Scripture that we are seated in the heavenly places with Christ! (Eph 2:6)
I remember talking about God with one of my guitar students a number of years ago. He told me he used to be a Christian. When asked, he said that he didn’t read the Bible and that he did not pray. He said prayer doesn’t work anyway.
The Missing Datebook
For about an hour I told him answered prayer after answered prayer and he then confessed that he actually had an answered prayer story too. He had been visiting his mom in Bakersfield and when he returned his datebook was missing. He called his mother who told him it wasn’t there.
For several days he looked all through his car and also through his apartment. It was lost!
His mother had a prayer group on Thursday Nights and during the meeting she called him. She told him that God had just told them his datebook was on the back seat of his car. He insisted that it couldn’t be in his car because he had thoroughly looked in his car and had even taken everything out of it. His mom said to just take another look now. He went to his car and was shocked to see his datebook in plain view on the backseat.
The Phone Call
One of my answered prayers is when I had a side business of finding housing for foreign students at a nearby college. My business partner, Melissa, called in a panic because she was scheduled to pick up a foreign student at the airport in 4 hours and all of the homestay families we knew were full. She said over the phone, ‘We are completely out of resources!”
How can you be “out of resources” when your a child of the living God? We prayed over the phone and asked God to have someone call us. Two hours later she called me back with the news that a woman had just contacted her to inquire about housing a foreign student. She was thinking of doing it in the future, but Melissa placed the student there a couple hours later!
We dedicated that business to Him and He helped us place every student. In fact, a number of them ended up becoming Christians. That’s a longer story. 🙂
We can take everything to God in prayer…. the BIG requests and the even the little requests.
Do you have a story about an answered prayer? I’d love to hear it.
PS. I’ve made a Prayer Journal that in my favorite format. There are available here: Prayer Journal
